Happy Hall @ Spring Valley Newsletter | December

Director's Message

Happy December! As we step into the festive month, it's remarkable how the old adage holds true – time really flies when you're having fun! I hope that everyone had a wonderful fall break, spending time and making memories with family and friends. As we embrace the holiday season, let's carry the warmth and joy from our fall break into the festivities ahead. Wishing you all a wonderful December filled with laughter, love, and cherished moments!

Program Highlights

Engagement Activities

This month, we are exploring the weather and seasons. This theme helps the students make connections between weather, climate, and their daily lives. Some of the STEAM activities will include making pinwheels, making crystal snowflakes, and learning how rain clouds form. Additionally, students will also get a chance to play some fun movement games such as Polar Bear Tag and Giants, Elves & Wizards. As a group, we will continue to focus on social-emotional learning by discussing life skills, turn-taking, and sharing within the group.

Professional Development

Last month, staff had an opportunity to attend a STEAM workshop to learn more about coding activities to bring back and teach the children. It was a great opportunity, and the staff can't wait to attend additional workshops to bring back new and fun activities for the children.

Community Events

Last month, we explored the Hindu festival of Diwali, a major celebration in India and beyond. Known as the "Festival of Lights," Diwali spans five days and signifies the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, representing the triumph of knowledge over ignorance. During this festive period, people adorn their homes with oil lamps (diyas), candles, and vibrant decorations. Customs include fireworks, traditional sweets, and gift exchanges. In our discussions, we delved into the various ways Diwali is celebrated. Additionally, our TK and Kinder children expressed their creativity by using paint and plates to craft rangoli art.

I am excited to extend a warm invitation for you to celebrate the holidays at our upcoming family event. Please mark your calendars and join us:

Group 1 (TK-K) : Tuesday, December 12th at 5:00 PM

Group 2 (grades 1-2): Wednesday, December 13th at 5:00 PM

Group 3 (grades 3-5) : Thursday, December 14th at 5:00 PM

Student Achievements

This past month, we reintroduced STAR STUDENTS! Each week, teachers select 4-5 students to receive the Star Student award, earning them a star on the wall, a prize from the prize box, and the privilege of being at the front of the line during snack time. Star students are chosen based on their demonstration of responsibility, cooperation, enthusiasm, or creativity!

Reminders

A gentle reminder of the absence policy:

If a student will be absent from the program for any reason, parents/guardians must email springvalley@happyhall.com or use the absence form linked here go.happyhall.com/absence before the bell rings at the end of the school day. To ensure the safety of your children, you must communicate with Happy Hall when your child will not attend the program.

Looking Ahead

We're thrilled to announce that winter camp will be hosted at all 5 school sites in Millbrae! Please find details in the flier below, and be sure to register soon as spots will fill quickly. We're looking forward to 6 days of winter fun!
